PhD program: IT- Mechanical Engineering concentration

The Ph.D/IT/ME program in Mechanical Engineering is designed to produce students capable of performing original research in a number of broad areas associated with Mechanical Engineering. These areas include the fluid and thermal sciences, solid and continuum mechanics, and aspects of materials research. The program prepares these students to become leaders at universities, as well as at national and industrial laboratories. Students may choose a research emphasis in areas as broad as continuum mechanics, or more specific topical areas such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, or heat transfer. The Ph.D./IT/ME program requires course work, qualifying exams, a dissertation proposal, dissertation research, and a dissertation defense. Mason’s general doctoral requirements apply to this program.
