Welcome from the Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the newest department in the Volgenau School of Engineering (VSE) at George Mason University, the Department of Mechanical Engineering.  Now that we are officially recognized as a department, the faculty and staff are excited for this opportunity to contribute to the intellectual capital in VSE.  Through our program offerings we emphasize enrichment with an alignment to the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenge Scholars Program, and we broaden access into our BSME program with partnership with Northern Virginia Community College.  Research is an important component of any academic enterprise.  We plan to build a multi-discipline, challenge -driven research enterprise that will engage our undergraduate students as well as provide the platform for our eventual graduate program.  An engineering graduate is not well prepared to enter the work force unless he/she values service and is prepared to contribute to his/her profession.  We build upon a tradition of service authored by organizations such as ASME by fully engaging our student body in relevant, real world experiences in service to community and in service to humanity.
