The Department of Mechanical Engineering at George Mason University is located near Washington, D.C., which gives our students access to internships, jobs, research, and entertainment.
Our students take classes at the Fairfax Campus and the Science and Technology Campus in Manassas, Virginia, where they learn in new laboratories, classrooms, and senior design space.

Students in our department:
- Work with private companies, such as Micron Technology, Vulcan Materials, and Vision Point Systems.
- Develop relationships with industry, government agencies, as well as contractors in Washington, D.C., and throughout the Virginia-Maryland metro area.
- Benefit from the help of our advisory board, which has arranged special tours of the Renwick Gallery, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Alban Caterpillar, Dewberry headquarters, and Micron’s Advanced Manufacturing Facility.
- Gain access to new laboratories, including a lab dedicated to studying fluid mechanics and heat transfer and another for studying materials science and engineering.

Easy Access to Industry, Culture, and Entertainment
Get to the nation’s capital by taking our free shuttles to the Metro. Visit world-class museums, attend live theater and concerts, or become a fan of one of the local sports teams. There are three major airports in the region: Dulles International, Ronald Reagan Washington National, and Baltimore Washington International, as well as access to trains at Union Station in Washington and Alexandria. You can also catch buses at Union Station.
